My Homebrew Lighting

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a couple of night rides under my belt now, so here is my opinion.

The lights are great, I have way more lighting, my friends can ride in front of me and use my lights in addition to their own so I am not slowed by them. The downside of these lights are they the beam is very wide and flat. While going over whoops, they all up and down constantly, not terrible but it is a little annoying. Also, you will want to point these downwards more then you think. Mine are almost touching the fork tubes now and as long as I keep my weight up front, the the lights are fine, but if you let the front end get fairly high, they are up in the sky. I am going to order a set of the fog lights which is more of a flood light as opposed to the spot lights these are, but that will be a while off. For those of you who build your own, post them up! I did try and get some video using a digital hero, but it just can not do any night time video.

Oh yea, build cost

Wire for stater: $10

Lights: $65:

Switches (X2): $6

Steel: $10

Total: $91

Feel free to copy! Here are some better pictures of how well they light up. I don't have another bike or light to compare them too, sorry.

Not trying to be artsy, but this was the only way I could get the camera to take a decent picture (on the ground), Head on:

Great thread!!!!! I love DIY projects.

This is what makes America great!!!! An idea, combined with creativity, some mechanical skill, a dash of tinkering and not listening to nay-sayers.. The government can't mandate those things.

You've helped motivate me to try a similar project but with smaller sized lights.

Excellent job Justin!

is there a link for re-winding your own stator?

Jump over to the 650/600 forum and search "stator" there is a ton of info over there. https://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=393791
