Plating a 450x in Virginia

Recommended Posts

Depends on your luck. I got a 08 Yamaha wr250F plated no problem. I simply went into the DMV, asked for a title and plates and walked out. I had walked in the an original MSO that did state "Off Road Use Only" but the clerk ignored it. I still have to install a full lighting kit, add a mirror and go through inspection. The DMV I used was a little one in a sleepy small town in the backwoods. Once you have the kit on and a plate, get it inspected by a laid back inspection place.

You have to have:

Brake light

Tail light

High/Low beam head light

Horn

Quiet muffler

Mirror

Turn signals

You also will also need an odometer (not sure what I am going to about this, the WR has no Odo, just a trip meter), and possibly a speedo.

Turn signals aren't required in VA. Here's what the code says:

D. Signal device (intention to stop or turn).

1. Signal devices are not required on motorcycles; however, if installed, they must operate and be inspected.

Getting a plate in VA is as easy as going to the DMV with Cert. of Origin, bill of sale, proof of ins., and $$ to pay for title/tags. I've plated 3 WR's over the past 2 years.
