Well it all started with me retiring at the ripe old age of 47. Gotta love it. Free money right. I had been living in TX, hunting...With a radar gun...Sick of that crap. Anyway, moved back to my state of birth and of choice Pennsylvania. Have a house in the mountains, Actually in the city but there are only 200 people in the zip code so its not too dense. Was thinking about a snowmobile but the snow up here is hard to predict and sparse at best. Would love a big chopper to cruise the twisty, winding roads but really couldnt get my head around $30k. Hmmm perhaps a dirtbike to play with. Would be nice if it was street legal too. Started browsing the forums and ebay. it appears to me that the nuttiest bunch are crazy about the honda XR650R. I do some more research and ...well, now I own one. Went and picked it up today. 7 hours of u-haul trailer pulling and it's in the garage. 2000 model but in great shape. Has been uncorked. 6 gal gas tank. New chain. Nothing bent visibly. Figured I would play with it and if I like it..pop it back on ebay and look for a brand new one. May not have to though, this one looks like it has been looking for me for years. Going to check all the normal stuff that goes wrong tomorrow then pray for sun and warmth. 3-4 inches of snow on the ground at the moment. The bike is so tall! I have always had street bikes. 650 yamaha. 1100 honda sabre 1100 Honda Magna twice (great Bike) 1100 Shadow (crap) Was funny, I had never heard one running before today and now I know why the Thumper moniker. Could feel it in my chest. Go ahead, snicker. So, now, question 1. How do u kick this thing over without bustin yer ass. I'm 6'1" 200lbs and I'm on tiptoes on it. I would hate to try to explain how I broke both legs trying to start it. It is a beast! I'm gonna have to start running and lifting a few weights (beers) before spring if I hope to ride it. Any words of wisdom other than pay up your insurance?
