2008 Gearing and X-Ring

I just brought home my new 08 450F. I want to put a 53 on the rear and replace the stock chain with a Primary Drive X-ring chain. When I did this on my CRF450, I had to put a washer on the counter shaft to push the sprocket out a little in order to prevent the wider chain from rubbing on the case. I just wanted to make sure that no such thing is needed for the YZ. Also.. If I could get away with going down to a 12 tooth sprocket in the front then I will do that (cheaper). Any comments. I know that the small front sprockets sometimes cause wear issues on the chain and front sprocket.
