need help on what do do fellas....

Recommended Posts

OK, so hears the deal thumper talk....

Two days ago i picked up a "2005" yz250f for 3k. the bike looked good and apperently had really low hours. I paid this much cause apperently in 2004 yamaha got a new fork and a couple other things that made a big differnece according to dirt rider.....Anyway i looks over the title when i get it today and its a 2004, and i start to take apart the engine and it obviously has some hours. I call the guy back and tell him my observations and findings in a nice manor, and he offers to return my money.

Whatya guys think i should do?

keep it, unless your going to need to do work on it very soon

i have 04 also and i love everything about it has a great engine too

but if its gonna need suspension work and engine fixing then take the money back

and yes for the 05 they did redo the suspension and made it better stock but if you ride hard youll probably get aftermarket suspension soon and if you dont ride hard then you wont really notice it,when mags do tests and reviews they ride them hard and fast and are extremely picky and when it all boils down to it,its your choice on what to do but 3grand is more on the high side for an normal 04 but its basically the same as an 05 you could prob get another 04 for 2600,but if this one is in great condition then i dont see why not keeping it and risking getting a piece of crap in the future

Looks like you have a couple of options here and that you're dealing with a seller who wants to appear to be honest. First, if you like the bike, keep it and negotiate a refund to offset the misrepresentation. Second, accept his offer to return your money and look for another one.

I too have an 04...I love it. Since 2004, this is only the second time I've changed the pistons/rings, and have never shimmed the valves and they're still in spec! I love my bike...fast, reliable, and best of all it's a Yamaha!!!! :excuseme:

Good Luck!

pretty much, i didnt call him up and go ape shit on him. I jut said i found this out and wasnt thrilled. I think that the engine could need work this summer, and to be honest i really cant afford a thumper top end after spending that much on the bike.

i think ill return it.....

Good thing the guy is being cool instead of just telling you "buyer beware, shove off". If your not happy and really want an '05 then I wouldn't think twice about returning it. If you like the bike and think it's worth the $$ then keep it. Me personally, I wouldn't settle for anything other than 100% satisfaction.

i dont really think 3 is that bad, when i bought my bike the people lied do me too, they said it had 20 hours on it and that it was bought in july,

well, the knobbes were gone and when i started looking through the papers, i found it was bought in may (both indicating that it had way more than 20 hours on it)

i bought it anyways cause i was new bike horney

if you are short on doe, get a 2t

I would either get some money back from him, or get all your money back and give him the bike back. The 04 YZ250F was one of the best years (even though they are all pretty similar). I just thought that my 04 was the best one I've owned. However, 3K is a lot for an 04 seeing that I sold mine two years ago for 2,700 and it only had 23 hours on it along with a bunch of goodies. I even warrantied it for a couple weeks for the new buyer.

I just sold my Nephew's 2004 YZ85. He bought it in 2005, so he thought it was an 05. I listed it on Craigslist as a 2005 and got someone interested. We pulled out the title to get it ready and were surprised when we saw that it was an 04. I had to call the guy the night before he came to get it and explain that we had the year wrong. I knocked it down from $1400 to $1300 and he was very pleased.

Difference in my case...the 04 and 05 were exactly the same.

I went from 4 to 2 and couldn't be happier. If you ride trails, look into a KTM smoker. It won't require much modding off the start.

Take it back. $3k is a lot for an '04 250F that needs work. My friend just sole an 04 KTM 450 that really did have low hours an extras on it for $3500. I think you can find a better deal.

Garrett Poucher and Skyler Howes of Garrett Offroad Racing are headed to Dakar!  These US privateers are headed there for their first times but Skyler is fresh off a victory at last week's Baja Rally, won the Sonora Rally in March and this team placed third in the Baja 1000.

They have a fundraising link set up and could use your help.
I raced with Garrett at Baja Rally last year and then both of them at Sonora and was honored to pit with them as well.  They're both super guys and work their assess off.  I think they both have good chances of not only finishing the 11 days of Dakar but placing well.
They're doing some rally training events this Sat, Oct 20 in Santa Clarita, CA and then another Oct 28th in St. George Utah so if you've ever considered learning rally raid navigation, this is your chance!  It's a lot of fun too.  More info on that at the link.
