How wide?

Recommended Posts

Oh no! How wide are they gonna get? When I put up signs at Rampart about 1990, they said "No Vehicles Over 40" wide" Are they gonna open it up to jeeps next?

Personaly, I think they'd be more appropriet on city streets or any where else jeeps are allowed to go than trying to keep widening what used to be MC trails.

Unfortunatly none of the trails in Colorado are wide enough for ATV's. The only place to ride them is on private property so I wouldn't waste the gas going to the Mtn's with one.

Yes, there is legislation banning all atv's except on private property.

The new OHV Travel Rule currently being implemented on all National Forests will designate trail use by vehicle type, not vehicle width. Attend the USFS meetings and insist that side-by-sides be restricted to 4WD ROADS and be prohibited from ATV routes. Make your voices heard.:excuseme:

As you have seen, being a TT'er that rides on any more than 2 wheels will not get you any love or comraderie here. It's a shame. I gave up riding the trails and stick to the tracks for two reasons: 1. I don't want to be associated with the ignorant motorized recreationist's(regardless of wheel count) that put a black eye on the sport as a whole. 2. I'd rather not be looked at with disdain when enjoying myself legally by quite possibly some of the individuals on this site. I feel for you getting into this sport right now.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to see the differences between the agenda these folks have and that of the sierra club. Both have a very narrow veiw of what uses should be allowed on public and private land.

But look on the bright side, you have been informed that you are not heterosexual and enjoy watching naughty flicks. (I believe 2 females on screen would be considered gay porn:applause: )

Good luck to you. I'll bet you will be doing a lot of this...:excuseme:

Oh come on! I know ATV are probably fun for you guys but think how we feel.

Our tread is about 4" wide, yours is ,OMG, 50" wide ? A jeep is , uh maybe 58 or 60" wide? Your 50" is what, 12 times wider than ours? 12X50"= 600"s/ 12" = 50' Ok, now that I figured that out, how would you like your trail to turn out to be 50' wide? Percentage wise it's about the same.

ATV are much closer to the size of a jeep than they are to the size of a MC so we'd rather the ATV's stay mainly on Jeep roads. You can understand why we feel that way, can't you? I'm not even going to go into the dust issue. First it's a little skinny MC trail . Then ATV's make it as wide as a car. Then the forest service says it's ugly and closes it to everybody.

Oh well, I gotta take a walk, but don't take it personal, it's just that we don't understand why ATV's are considered more like a MC than a jeep. Can anybody explain that?

I used to have an ATV, almost 10 yrs ago, and even then I made $45hr plowing snow with it so they certainly have their place

Well, some "atvs" almost ruined the fossil ridge trail, my back yard. The gov't got very pissed and fell trees for almost a mile up the trail thanks to the compassionate hunters and their kwads and the crapper they left behind. Many more examples, but do we need to continue??? Sierra club? no! But a few rich idiots, ruin it for the rest of us! There are plenty of two tracks(jeep roads), stay on them!

I think most trails at Rampart Range are too narrow, but there are some at Rainbow Falls that I've seen side by side's on. I'd like to get a RZR for my wife and daughter.

Now now. The REAL argument here is against further widening trails that are already growing every year. Is it really that terrible to take 4-wheeled vehicles on Jeep trails? There's some burly 4x4 trails all over the place, it's hardly boring. Most bike riders object mainly to the transformation of our trails into big wide dirt roads. Some of my favorite trails at one of the more popular places to ride had their best obstacles removed last year.

I reread the question, and I think your saleman just wants to sell you a RZR.

I don't have one but I'd be willing to bet , if they allow jeeps and RZR's, then a Rhino should be OK too.

Restriction at Rampart is 50 inches.

Side by side quads are not allowed on the trails and must have a plate to be on the road (like all vechicles)

Funny thing is, I'm sure the "haters" from the ATV crowd will soon come to distain the sideXside crowd for "widening the trails"
