got a 04 KX 100. dropping a wiseco in it. should we hone the cylinder or is it plated? i heard that you can ruin it if its plated.

Lightly deglazing will not hurt the nickasil coating. Don't overdo it.

That's what I do as well. Scotch-Brite pad with lots of ATF.

You can safely hone a plated cylinder with a ball hone. The aluminum oxide materials used in standard hones is incapable of cutting Nicasil (Electrofusion on pre-'03 Kawies) plating, but it will de-glaze the bore surface.

Do NOT use a spring-loaded finger hone. The stones can snag in the corners of the ports and chip the plating.

After you de-glaze the cylinder, if the cross-hatching is not clearly visible, the plating is worn out. There are no tools that a typical homeowner possesses that can cut new cross-hatching into a plated cylinder. It must be cut with diamond tooling.

Use a scotch brite thats what I do on all my plated cylinders
