Unlike social media (which is considered "your space"), a forum by its very nature is a shared community of information that is designed to provide archives of discussion on topics to help others for years to come. The reason you can come to TT, and find  the answer to solve almost any dirt-bike question for every 4 stroke (and 2T for that matter) made in the last 20 years, is because all of that information is here..to live on forever.

Since a forum discussion is a collaboration of many users contributing to the same discussion to build on an answer to find the best solution, deleting a post in the chain can very easily destroy the entire value of the discussion (and solution) as a whole.

That being said...if someone happens to accidentally post sensitive information (say for example, a photo exposing their home address or something of that type of personal nature), simply hit the "report post" button and the moderating staff will be happy to censor the personal information without destroying the content of the discussion as a whole.

How old is the post?

If it's recent, you should be able to choose edit, then delete.

Assuming it's your post of course.

I think at some point in time the edit option is no longer available.

Once the window of oppty to edit has expired, only a moderator can edit the post. To notify a moderator, nav to post, tap the "report post" link, and explain what you'd like. This will alert the moderating team and provide a link to the post in question.

Yep. Delete is a global setting. Delete all or delete nothing. So, someone can start a topic, let many, many reply, then whack the entire discussion for whatever reason. It's not that we care about a member deleting their reply, but sometimes it can kill an entire discussion that is not theirs per se to delete. Also, sometimes deleting a reply can take the entire discussion out of context for those reading it. Bottom-line, forums are like a public discussion, can't delete what you say, so say what you mean and don't mind having out there.
