replacing the clutch

can i just buy new cork plates if my clutch is starting to slip, or is it neccesary to replace the entire kit? (cork plates, steel plates)

Yes, you can replace just the drives "corks" if, the steels are still with in Honda's specification, not wrapped or heat checked. Scuff them with Emory cloth or a 3M to remove the glaze.

However, replacing the entire clutch pack with heavy duty spring, will ensure that there will not be premature clutch ware.

A piece of mind goes a long way.

I don't know, I've always been satisfied with Honda frictions, but I'm now using an EBC 091 kit in my XR218 and the springs are a lot stiffer than stock, so far so good.
