how much oil?

Recommended Posts

My son's CRF50 (same basic engine) takes .6 quart of oil, per the manual. Yes, they do have an air filter that should be cleaned, dried, and then lightly oiled before re-installing it. Your air filter is the large black plastic thingy behind the carb.

Clean the filter with dish detergent and rinse it out several times. Let the filter dry, then spray it with some air filter oil (see your dealer for this). I like to spray it inside of a plastic bag, then rub the filter around to spread the oil. Take the filter out of the plastic bag and then squeeze it inside of paper towels a few times to remove the extra oil. Put it back together and you're all set.

If you aren't sure about the spark plug, then spend $3 for a new one of those while you're at it. Don't forget to check the chain and give it a good cleaning and lube it. These bikes don't have an o-ring chain, it's just your basic chain...so it's really important to keep it clean and lubed. The chain should only have about 3/4 inch of play...too loose and it can jump teeth on the sprockets. (don't overtighten it though). These bikes are pretty bulletproof...but if you have any questions just throw up a post around here - you'll get whatever help you ask for! Enjoy the bike...
