DynoJet Kit for your 650L or 650R Review It

So I hard a hard time finding peoples thoughts on the dynojet kit other than that it is expensive. So I figured this thread would help many. Everyone with Dynojet Kits please chime in to the following questions:

1. When did you install the jet kit?

2. What do you like about the jet kit?

3. What do you not like about the jet kit?

4. What are your thoughts on driveability once the jet kit was installed. (idling, etc)

I installed the kit on my L shortly after I bought the bike,then because of this forum I found out about Daves mods so I tried them and I was happier with them. I then went with a mikuni flat slide that I prefer over all.

on my L the PO had installed the dynojet kit(does not include pilot jet)...i ordered/installed Keihin jets(pilot & main) did Dave's Mods and the bike runs much better...have since done a R to L carb swap, runs even better :thumbsup:

the fact that the DJ kit does NOT include a pilot jet is the biggest downside other than cost BUT it's better than the stock setup.


I had one too. No pilotjet in the kit, so you still need that. I never tried Dave's mods, so I cant comment on them.

I eventually ended up with a non-mx FCR 41 pumper and is an excellent carb.

Do yourself a favor and do Daves' mods.

I have a combo going on right now. I found that when NY switched to 10% ethanol it leaned my bike out considerably. I still do not have it perfect but it is much better than stock. I have keihin 55 pilot jet, the dyno needle in the recommended slot and the DJ 160 main. Normal mods uni-filter and pulled snorkel. Right now I am a bit rich on the gasahol and way rich when I get some gas from a station that has not switched over yet. I am considering tweaking and cannot decide between going to a 52 pilot or leaning out the needle one notch. I am leaning toward the needle because I notice the most issue on throttle between 50%-75% so that it probably the direction I will go. Of course this will mean I have to take the time to rip the carb off of this thing....so hard to find the time!!!

can you do the daves mod on a 91 xr600r? are the carbs the same?

different carbs but simular modifications...the XR600R carb is more like the XR650R's carb with a mechanical slide linkage vs the XR650L's CV vacuum/diaphram setup.


u may want to shim the needle in addition to the above...

      So I don't seem to find my specific issue so here I am asking. 
      I have a 1997 Xr600r. It was recently re-jetted and has ran really well ever since until more recently it has begun to have this issue.
      Everything works fine. Kicks right away, nice and easy. Runs great, sounds great, purs. But when I'm downshifting and slowing down to a stop, if I let my hand off the throttle that's when it just dies. I found that I can counter this by lightly holding the throttle as I down shift (so I'm revving quite a bit during downshift).  But it hadn't done this before. 
      The only thing I've done that I suspect may have been an issue on my part was when I pulled out the engine to change the valve cover gasket and upon doing so perhaps when connecting the carb back to it, I may have missed something or made a crack in the boot? 
      Any ideas? Thanks

      There's been a lot of talk about how to register a dirt bike in states that don't allow it.
      I just moved to North Carolina and for the first time in my life might be able to afford a bike. I've been dreaming about an XR650R for a long time, but they're not cheap. Plated bikes seem to be more expensive too. So here's my question, has anyone tried to plate a dirt bike by adding all the necessary features and having it inspected as a custom bike? Anyone know of another way I can plate an xr650 in NC?

      Hoping for some help before I throw in the towel and end it all!
      Engine starts fine, runs and idles well for +/- 10 minutes, but cuts out while riding once the engine warms up (175 - 185) and intermittently cuts out thereafter (any speed/gear). It will start up after 30 seconds or so (but won't run for long before dying again). No spurting or surging.. just dies.
      I've replaced CDI (twice), Spark plug, spark wire and coil, and most recently pulse generator. I do have a 41mm Flat side carb from a CRF (and it has more power than the old carb setup), breathing through a Uni filter. Also, sealed battery tender battery (hasn't shown low when trickle charged).
      What's next on the test/replace list? Stator maybe? Please help...
