Transforming the XR400R into SuperMotard for the Weekend !

I found a set of 17" wheels that I can borrow for the week end .

They are comming from a XR650R so the front wheel fitted perfectly but the rear has different size bearings except that I think the rear will fit right there.

There's a race in my area and I'd like to try it with the XR.

Here's a quick view how the bike looks right now :

Just for shits and grinns.

See if the XR4 rear wheel bearings will fit the XR6.5 hub.

Rent or borrow a micrometer and measure the OD of each rims bearings or the ID of the wheel bearing sleeve.

It's worth a shot, this way you keep the XR4 axle and it's possible it will mount without any bike changing mods.

I need to keep the XR400 axle since it matches the swing arm , the 650R's axle is bigger and will not go thru the XR400 swing arm.

According to my search .

The XR650R has a 6004 "20x42x12" on the right side and 6204 " 20x47x14" on the left side.

The XR400R has a 6203 "17x40x12" on the right side and on the left side a 6303 "17x47x14".

So I need to switch the rear left for a 6303 "17x47x14" on the XR650R wheel ( easy find ) but the right side is a bit tricky it has to be a "17x42x12" and all I can find with that size is a OEM Honda part number # 91003-KRM-841..looks like the after market bearing company don't carry that size..

Done.

The XR650R wheels does fit on a XR400R , the front one bolts right on and the rear you swap bearings and use the XR400R rotor on the XR650R wheel.

Here's the final product with a new rear slick and a Supermotard front fender.

I wonder who gave you the idea to use the 400 bearings in the 600 hub?

That fellow must really be smart to suggest such a simple idea to make the swap work!

They are not XR400 bearings , I took the mesurement of both wheels , went online with the dimension needed and google found the part number for me..:ride:

Took me about 15 minutes.

It's good to know that you can fit a XR650R wheels on a XR400R..

..That was a lot of fun , the XR400R ran great.

Next time I'll get a 320mm front rotor , it doesn't work with the stock rotor , not enough braking power..:ride:

No pics to show but I have a small video......clic here....

cool vid, your xr4 runs pretty good too:thumbsup:

so, what part number or what part did you need to get, and where did you get it? I would like to know just in case I ever need to fit some xr650r wheels on mine.

Thanks.

91205-950-003 OIL SEAL 25X42X7

91253-033-003 OIL SEL,25X47X6.5

91003-KRM-841 BRG,BALL RADIAL 1

and a 6303 ball bearing.

with these 4 part numbers you can take a 650R rear wheel and stick on a XR400 using the XR400 rear disk(rotor).

To bolt the rotor you need to use 4 bolts part number # 90113-MAC-780 using 4 small washers.

thanks

Ive just purchased some xr650r talon wheels for my xr400. Just thought i would let you know that these also fit by changing the 3 rear bearing on the rear to 6303 bearing and they fit straight on.

Sooo, what fits in the front xr650l? What fits in the rear xr650l??? PLEASE HELP me
