I just stripped the engine oil drain plug!

Just as the title says, I stripped my drain plug. It is not the bolt as I looked it over and the threads are good. Is there any good way to fix this w/out having to split the cases? I searched but most threads are about the tranny drain plug stripping. Oh and if it helps the bike is an 02.

very easy fix take off left engine cover the engine oil threads will be in view just put in a heli coil most auto parts stores have them there i think the thread is 8mm be 1.25

Does it just screw in there or will it require retapping?

Ok nvm I just did some quick research and from what I read I could drill it out a little larger and put in the heli coil so that the hole would essentially be the same size. Does that sound right?

Timeserts are better than helicoils...

yes you drill a little bigger hole tap new therads then put in heli coil and your done the

All done, it worked out perfectly; I just have to go get some gasket maker and I will be able to ride again.

I just went with heli-coil as that is what the auto-parts store had.
