Desperately Need Help With Honda Xr80

Recommended Posts

Hi, i the last time i was on here my 1979 honda xr80 didnt work and you guys told me to get new points, and so i did. I installed the points and now i get the nicest spark i have ever seen. But my bike still doesnt run. When i try to kick it over it seems like it wants to kickover but it doesnt. It has a new piston and rings so i know that that isnt the problem. If you have any suggestions PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!! thanks

Double check your cam orientation at TDC. I had the same problem until I flipped the cam so the lobes were pointing down @ tdc.

If you could give us a little more info we can probably help you out.

1) Have you had it running since you installed the new piston?

2) Did you re-bore the cylinder when you did the piston?

3) Did the bike still run before changing the piston?

4) Has the bike sat along time without running?

5) Did you change the condensor when you changed the points?

5) Did you try squirting some gas in the cylinder [through the spark plug hole] and then try to start it?

6) Is the plug wet when you take it out?

7) Are the points gapped to spec?

check your timing and clean your carb, or even just pull the plug and spray some startin fluid in there and try to start it, (put the plug back in first tho:p )

thank you guys, i found out that the carb wasnt getting gas because the petcock assebly in the gas tank was clogged again so i put some mineral spirits in the tank and flushed it out several times, threw more gas in the tank and now shes runnung for the first time in 10 years.
