Stock KLX 110 spilling gas when dropped

Recommended Posts

I just bought a brand new 2007 KLX110 for my 8 year old. We took it out riding today and he had a few crashes and layed it over a few times. Every time, there was a fairly large puddle of gas under the bike. I know it is common for a bit a gas to come out but this is more than what I would classify as a bit.

The bike runs great and starts right up when he picks it up.

Is this normal? If not, what should I be looking at to fix?

Thanks,

Mark

I am assuming the bike was on its side for a good amount of time while the puddle formed. This is normal. When a bike lays on it's side the gas in the carb no longer lifts the float up to shut off the flow of gas from the tank to the carb. Since there is not a steady flow of gas into the carb the excess gas is expelled out through the overflow tubes to the ground. As long as the bike is on its side with the fuel petcock turned on, there will be gas flowing out of the overflow tubes, at least until the tank runs out of gas.
