First mods on the X. Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Just got my 250x and love it! I'm 6'6", 230 so it's a little sluggish at times. Thinking of getting the full system and power commander right off the bat. That and a K&N. Any thoughts? Worthy upgrade? Noticable? Also want to get the black plastics, but I think that can wait till I get the power issues sorted.

What systems are worth it? FMF? Also, how much top end would I lose going up a tooth in the back?

Thanks guys!

Bob the shrouds! (j/k) :D

If you do the KN and exhaust, you almost need to get a programmer to get full advantage (needs more fuel then). I wasn't going to 🙂 , but I got all three. Definate, noticable improvement. Gets rid of the low-mid rpm torque dip, which I notice most.

This has been covered many times before in many threads with almost the exact same title you named yours which means it is searchable.

That being said your BEST first mod is going to be to add teeth to the rear or drop a tooth in the front gearing wise.

If doing highway riding I recommend doing the rear as the front will add some vibration

There is a full directory of mods with a bunch of links to the discussion threads here:

There's also a nice chart showing gearing changes here:

http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showpost.php?p=523157&postcount=4

That'll give you a good idea of what different gear setups will do. Lots of folks seem to like the 13/46 on the X. I think that's what I'll do.

If I had to bet, I would bet the stock air filter flows more than the K&N. So much more surface area, and a lot of it is straight down into the TB, instead of from the sides. Just an observation.

If I were 6'6", I would probably want new bars before anything else.

I am 220, so not much difference there.

Once the ergos fit me, I'd look into:

- getting the suspension dialed in

- whether I wanted to change the tires right away

You don't say anything about what kind of riding you want to optimize for.

Cheers/dh

My guess is that a high quality ITG foam filter would flow better than stock or K&N in the stock shape for that reason however the stock one's nature is likely not as good as a K&N

Hey guys...Thanks for the info. I should have searched first...

I'll be mostly street riding, occasional amature supermoto events on Sundays..

I'll do some filter research too before I buy..

I'm also looking for the Q4 FMF.. Any idea's on a site with good prices? I'm having a hard time finding sites that carry stuff for our bikes.

Right here on TT, they might have it. If now, try

Dennis Kirk. Might also check with Wheeling Cycle Supply.

He is a member here, and always good to deal with.

Lastly, ebay is always a good place to find stuff.

Thanks dude! I've been a longtime forum user in general (Sportbikes.net, NASIOC.com, IWSTI and such), and this place is top notch!🙂:D
