Top end failed today...advice please

Recommended Posts

I've spent hours getting my kids' bikes ready and now it was my turn...

I took out my 97 RM 250. Running so nice after it warmed up and had just changed the oil in the crank, new brakes front and back. Hit third gear full throttle and clunk! I new it was bad; I pulled off the barrel and behold; rings failed and scored up the wall near the power valve. My question: what should I pay to have the barrel machined? I suppose they put a sleeve of sorts in it? Any advice would be appreciated. I'll keep a log of my hours and next time replace the top end before it blows. I'm going with standard bore too.

Wow, I suppose I'll need to compare trade vs BBK. Looks like the power valve was the culprit. Thanks for the link.
