troubles with my 01 250f

i was riding my 01 wr 250f today for about 5 minutes. when i went up a small hill, i got to the top and the bike made a weird noise, like it slipped back into neutral. so i try to put it back into 1st gear, and nothing happens, it seems like its still in 1st gear. then i try to put in the other gears and nothing works. could this be just something wrong with the front sproket, or something serious?

hey i figured out what was wrong..the drive axle where the front sproket locks into is worn out, if that sounds right...does anyone know the approx. price of a new one?
