Bike running too lean=damage?

Recommended Posts

I just re-jetted my bike, it starts on the first kick and sounds like its running perfectly but when I took the spark plug out there is nothing on it it looks like it is brand new out of the box. I know your not supposed to tune according to your spark plug but I have heard that running your bike too lean can cause major engine damage, is this true? The bike is running amazing I just dont want to pay tons of money for something that can easily be avoided:thumbsup:

A 4S can be so lean as to be unrideable and no damage will result other than perhaps your pride. You (meaning everyone but race techs) cannot go by plug color with today's unleaded fuels. You could 40 years ago. I am amazed people still pass this old info along.
