FMF Q fit issues to '02 stock header

Recommended Posts

The i.d. of the Q muffler is way bigger than the stock header. I have installed the aluminized looking bushing and sealed it with high temp silicone just like the FMF rep told me. It doesn't work, it just seperates. What else should I try?:)

I do not have a clamp. There are no slots in the muffler for a clamp to even work. FMF said there was no clamp needed, just silicone if I wanted to. That didn't work for more than a few minutes. I let the silicone cure over night.

hmm. my Q muffler for my 02 has 4 slits in it and a clamp.

you seem to have two options, make a shim/collar (a cut up soda can can do the trick on the cheap)

or

you can cut some slits in the muffler and put a clamp on it

or

call FMF, tell them that they suck, and get an MRD (i chose this path but didnt bother to call FMF) :)

I cut slits and clamped and siliconed it with the bushing ... It didn't work. first time I rode it it just broke loose and started leaking again. ***!!!

Nobody else has had this problem?

I see in pics of later model bikes there is a bracket on the sub frame to support the exhaust at the slip joint. I do not have that on my '02.

Anybody have some advice?
