xr650r help please?

Recommended Posts

hey guys, i recently got a 2002 model xr650r. i love it :worthy:

ive done 8000km in the month that ive owned it :)

been carrying out maintenance as per the book, and it seems too be going okay.

but i have a few questions,

the monkey that i bought it off had it set up terrible, the head bearings were stupidly tight and it handled horrible, sorted it now

its got a drilled side panel and fmf power bomb header with the titanium end can.

i havent looked what the jetting is yet though, it seems too run quite hot?

is this just normal for the pig?

also, at just off idle going along it 'surges' and jumps about a bit. seems quite snatchy at low revs. is this just typical xr behaviour? or could i be lean on the pilot?

alsssooo, the intake rocker arm shaft. wobbles with throttle input, the one too the right of the sprak plug :D

whats with that?

lastly, any reccomended items/modifications? ive looked around the main sites. and done most the stuff ive found;

greasing, cable routing, right footpeg.

oh yeah, its supermoto. so road use only :ride:

cheers for any input guys. :banghead:

sorry, i must not have made it clear enough.

the idle is fine, it doesnt ever hang. but anyway;

i havent looked at the jetting, but it has been changed.

anyhow, i looked today.

65s pilot, got a 68s on order. and 175 main jet.

the fuel screw is about 7 turns out, lool.

any info on this rocker arm shaft moving? :banghead:

im currently on 15/38 gearing. and it seems okay, lacking a little oomph. but i ride it quite far. plus, its restricted too 33bhp :D:worthy:

uk laws. :)

anyway, more tips or info welcome? :ride:

33bhp is less than a new stock wr250r steet legal bike. i think your thinking of 33rwhp which would be like 40-41 brake horses(flywheel ponies)

yes, its restricted too 33rwhp.

via a restrictor in the top of the carb, it just stops the slide opening fully. therefore restriciting flow and the throttle only moves about half way.

imagine a normal pig, but only being able too twist the throttle half open?

thats all it is .. . :)

hey, all you need is half throttle to do wheelies on them honda's.

if you have the $$$$ a edelbrock quicksilver pumper will give you more power, better throttle response, and isn't restricted. that a K&N, exhaust and hrc power up kit and you should have somewhere around 50rwhp,(i think)

or, i could just take the restrictor out. but then it wouldnt be legal would it?

it uk laws, i had it restricted. on a dyno.

you have too produce a dyno print out prooving your bikes 33bhp too the insurance company.

i know the routes i can take for more power, but thanks anyway :)

how often will you have to prove this?

its against federal laws in the states to mess with emissions and that junk on green sticker and street legal bike, track bikes are ok too, but everyone does it anyways

cause its so fun when your bike is uncorked

i dont, just the once.

but if i crash, and its off.

and they proove it isnt 33bhp or under. then i get done for riding with no license, or insurance. soo, a lot of points on my license.

but yeah, its coming out soon mate.

fitted a larger pilot jet and its fixed the surging.

but my baja designs footpeg fell off earlier while i was out riding. not just the peg, the whole assembly on the right hand side.

gonna retrace my steps but doubt ill find it :)

not happy,

that sucks about your foot peg. if you crash your bike hard enough for them to want to see hp ratings, then i might be broken enough not to be able to be dyno'd. maybe
