Picking up a 690 Duke III

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I'm new to KTM land. Just got rid of an Aprilia SXV 450...

I am picking up my new Duke III tomorrow.

What kind of issues am I looking at on this bike? Glitchy FI? Hard oil changes?

Is there upgrade maps available?

What else will I need to be concerned about?

Also, here in the Seattle area (and west coast apparently), only the white Dukes are available. Any one in the western US (or anywhere in the US) have a orange one. Did they come to the US this year?

And anyone know if orange bodywork is available?

TIA for any help/suggestions, and blast me if I shoulda searched. :)

orange dukes are NOT imported.

as long as your dealer prepped it correctly there shouldn't be any major problems.

So I picked up the Duke today. No fueling problems here.

Very easy bike to ride. I love it.

So now I have a Tuono, RD400 and the Duke.

I think the Duke may be my favorite for local urban blitzing... :)

Superb thoughts so far X. Its brand spanking new, but it just feels right.

I gotta see how it comes up, it feels front heavy now, but I'm breaking it in still.

Shifts smooth, nice clutch, good brakes, flickable and just plain easy to ride.

Much less cammy than my Tuono or SXV 450.

I'll trim down my rear fender like yours and do sliders, thats about it.

So ya, :)

Hey just a thought on trimming the fender. I also live in the PNW (Portland) and noticed that even with the fender on (not the really obnoxious cheap bolt on bit with the reflectors, just the main part with the plate and signal attachments) that I get a bit of road spray on my back when I ride in the rain. I really wanted to cut the fender, but I don't think I will now because I don't want to get covered with road grime every time I ride.

Very good looking Duke. I haven't seen one yet in a showroom. The ape looks very good also. I have an 04 RSV 1000 black Factory myself. I was looking to pick up another fun bike and that Duke may be the ticket. Enjoy!!!
