20 on/80 off etc... (Newbie question)

Recommended Posts

Yes, I looked, and didn't find it.

If 95% of my dual sport riding is highway/streets, am I going to be wasting my money on 20% on / 80% off tires? Total newbie to dual sport riding, and don't want to short change myself in that 5%.

I put some Dunlop D606 on my girlfriends XT. They are billed as something like 90% offroad tires. Really good tires, but because of the shorter spacing between knobs they get mud clogged real quick. They also wear out very very fast on the road. Expect the tires to loose 70% of their offroad effectivenexx by 1500 miles.

I just put on the Maxxis M6006, and love them. The front tire is a little washy on dirt, but back hooks up good, and they are awesome on the road. It is rated at a 50/50 tire. I have about 300 miles on them so don't know how long they will last but so far show very little wear. Search M6006, or Maxxis M6006 and some good threads will come up. I got mine from motosport.com good price. Be sure to run a 130, I have the 120 and wish it was wider.
