How hard is it to replace topend

I need to replace top end never done it before, Do I need to buy special tools how long does it take and what are the do's and don'ts?

Its so simple that once you pull the head off, you'll say "thats all there is?"

Its easy, and that video is really good, the only thing that is a pain in the ? is the curclips, but youll get them i eventually

I agree...hate those circlips with a passion. I'ld pay good money for a tool that made it easier to pop those suckers in and out more easily.

You do need a special tool....a torque wrench extension, to be able to properly torque two of the cylinder nuts down. Motion Pro makes one....you can get them from various places, including here on TT. Here's a pic of the tool:

You also need a torque wrench, if you don't already have one. Doh!

try to find someone who has done it before to help u for the first time. offer them a 6 pack or something. but it isn't too hard. one thing the rockymountain video doesn't show is that u need to drain the coolant. it's the lowest bolt on the water pump cover. you will need a torque wrench to torque the bolts back to the right setting. and a torque wrench extender from motion pro is recomended.

Circlips do blow. Its shocking to see all the development put into motorcycles, machines, medicine and Viagra and to think we have not found something better than circlips.

I just hand tighten the cylinder bolts. Do some heat cycles and then check them again to torque them down if they moved. Works fine for me.

Ever have one of those ****ers fall right through the towel covering your tranny.

Its real simple to replace the topend. I did my first whole new jug a month ago. Got the kit from Athena, sat there with some drinks and a tin of chew and had it together in a hour, taking my time.? I'll never but a four stroke!

I agree 4 strokes suck! Can't believe how simple it is to do maintance on 2 strokes. no valves, camchain, shims, timing . The Rocky Mountain Vids are awseome! Used one of them to service my kayaba's with a few specialist tools its so easy!!!

I would not use blue loctite on them. Is usually suggested to go back after warm up and re torque the bolts. With loctite this is very hard to do while being accurate.
