"Honduki DRX400 special" pics finally! (Warning, image heavy)

Recommended Posts

So I've finally managed to find a camera that likes this PC & uploaded a few pics of my new toy/project/clunker call it what you will... :)

Would have got a pic of the smoke except that I already had the carb off for float height tinkering in the hope of getting it to run slightly less rich & maybe even to consider starting when warm...

Note in the second picture my "repair" to the snapped stand, it's a bicycle seatpost hammered over the stub & does the job just fantastic! :D

Also, in the closer shots you can see where the original twinshock rear end has been lopped off & replaced with a subframe from some lightweight M/X'er or other...

In the third pic down you can just see the end of the Micron Carbon can that I'm thinking of putting on there, not that it'll be any quieter than the current one, just about 1/4 the weight.

So you can see I've got my work cut out, but I'm gonna give it my best shot as it's a great fun bit of kit & having the early DR main frame & lump should allow me to keep it sounding like a thumper should (legally) :)

Errr, someone already did I think! :)

I'll certainly give it a good go though, just thrash it round the fields while I find a good used engine for the right money, then start the laborious job of making it road-legal!

It's like a "Chupacabra". Seldom seen but feared by all...Hide the women and children !!!!....Seriously, some of the most fun I have had is cobbling these beasts together. I once put a Honda XL-350 engine in a Husky frame. My "Honda-varna" was a sweet dirt bike back then because nobody made a 4-stroke with decent suspension.

Well that's got people talking, where do I start?....

Brakes work just fine (save for the rear master cyl. is now loose, the mounts were BRAZED on!!)

Yes it's certainly got it's fair share of bullshit stickerage, but I'm confident that's a real XR swingarm (the wheel, brake etc. all tie in to a late '90s 400 I think) & in the last pic that's deffo. a Honda link.

Yes it is feared by most (of the MTB'ing kids on the local fields anyway) now, mainly because it blows their hair off if they stand in the way of that pipe when I blip the throttle! :worthy:

And finally (I think?!?) Yes it's more fun than the all-aggro, mainly because the engine's been out of that for months while I try to summon the courage to start welding the front panel & wings back to some semblance of rigidity...

Oh, and just to update on the health of the "DRX" - I've fiddled with the float level a bit more & it now starts when warm too (after a fashion, & trying to break my leg a couple of times :) ) and it also runs as well as it has done since I got my grubby mitts round it, so I can confirm that it's not all that down on power & still gets through the gears in 3 seconds flat whilst making my wrists & shoulders ache holding on... Yes I'm hooked now & certainly will be doing my best to keep the legend alive as it were. :D

Oh, rat bike W/USD's? Well I ain't gonna be spendin' thousands on it if that's what ya mean (and yes it will be getting a flat paint job, I'm thinking black/grey/white "urban camo", done that before on an old G.P.O. pushbike I used for shopping & it came out looking mean as a Glaswegian doorman...)

And as for life insurance, my policy comes courtesy of my eyes, legs & throttle/brake hand... :)

Peace & rubber side down to all.

:D:worthy::ride:

Brilliant, yeah probably would have to if I jumped the thing. Just been enquiring with some Suzuki specialists about getting a peg for it, about 4 weeks from Japan!

Search Ebay for DR600/650 bits, a chap in Rugby breaks lots of import stuff, he trades as Endurospares, called Ray. He always has bits for my DR600 and the footpegs look the same, he's bound to have something for you.

Tell him Paul from Bedford suggested him.:)
