stock xr50 forks sticking

Recommended Posts

The stock forks on my kid's '02 xr50 are really sticky (they won't return to full extension after compression unless you yank up on the bars). Is there a simple fix for this? I was planning on pulling the forks apart and cleaning them up and hoping that this solves the problem. Any other ideas?

Sounds like there may alot of dirt caught up in there ?

Maybe one of the springs are broken ?

Both springs are just plain worn out ?

My old forks were exactly like that. I highly doubt the legs are bent, otherwise you wouldn't be able to "help them the rest of the way up". You could get new springs (stiffer) and rebuild them or you could just get new/used forks. Personally, on my 07 CRF50 I used CRF70 sized forks to beef it up a little, gave me atleast another inch or so, goes well with my new Tech5 +2 extended swingarm.
