I don't know of any stretches but wearing a kidney belt while riding helps to keep my lower back from getting really sore. Everything I have read says that strengthing your abdominal area will help alot

Try sitting on your butt with legs straight out and put one foot over across the knee making that knee stand up. Lets say you put the right foot over first, then you should have a "p" shape going on with your lower body. put your right elbow right on the inside of your knee and twist your body and hold for a 20-30 count. Then put the left elbow on the outside of your knee and twist and hold the other direction. The second one should crack your back if your lucky. Either way sitting and doing that or just steady stretching twords your toes and holding at your limit with out jerking should help. Ibuprophen is a great alternative to the narcotics. Pm me if you need clearer explanation. I feel for you with my damaged siatic nerve, which maybe something that is bothering you also. Mine was damaged in a fall that broke my tailbone.

Right now you need to rest, not stretch or workout. Most backpain will go away on its own in a few weeks or less. If not, time for an MRI if you really want to know what's up.

I know, I'm 6 years post microlaser discectomy for herniation in L4/5 (lower back).

There are many different causes of back pain so you need to understand what you're dealing with before you try to solve it. Education is key here. Google and read, read and read some more.

Go get a massage. Not the "nice" one but the therapeutic kind that hurts like ? . A massage therapist usually have some stretches you can do as well.

It'll take a bit but I guarantee it'll feel better soon.

You could also go to the chiroprator. But choosen 'em carefully.

All the above advice looks good:thumbsup: but the only thing that helped my lower back spasms was Skating with Roller blades.,It really makes the lower back stronger. I had always had lower back problems from working on and lifting snowmobiles.

I notice when i get a little "soft" it comes back.

One thing i used to do when my back would drop me to my knees... Ibuprofin,ben-gay,wrap a towel around with a heat pad and go to bed.

I have scoliosis and I have never felt pain because of riding (computer and airplanes can kill me though). Keeping the weight under 175 lb seems to do the trick for me.

As someone said before, use the kidney belt even when 110 deg, watch your posture and try the "child's pose" to strech. I've going to some Yoga sessions and it really helps, besides the scenery can be quite good ?

If the pain is intense and you cannot move, rest and strech and give your back some time to recover. I try to stay away from chiropractors, bad experience in my case, but good massages and spa are nice treats for your back.

Get a referral to a good physical therapist or a back specialist. A massage therapist has has relatively little training. Not really possible to give a suggestion without a diagnosis and doing the wrong things could make you worse. You doc sounds shitty if all he'll do is give you pills..

Once fixed, do the recommended exercises and see if it's ok to start a yoga/pilates class. Best damned thing I ever did for core strength. Kicks my ass every time and makes me ride stronger longer.

I don't know of any excersizes, but I find that if I stand up as much as possible and keep good posure (straight lower back) I don't get sore. Mind you, I've never had really bad back pain while riding so this might not help

the lower back pain i have experienced over the years is because of sitting in a truck all day and getting out occasionally to do back breaking work; it's a sharp pain in the lower sides of my back. if your problems are injury related, this probably doesn't apply. i've tried stretching, resting and a chiropractor and they all didn't work, especially going to the chiropractor. my doctor told me to hit the gym and i thought he was crazy, but i did and it worked. now, i stretch as a preventive measure and to supplement my exercise routine. i wouldn't recommend it as a way to eliminate back pain, because once you rest and your muscles tighten back up, you're screwed. also, a hot shower won't work, try icing it, that should help.

This book was recommended by my physical therapist after a ruptured disk (l4/l5)... That was over two years ago, and after adhering to many of the precautions and movements recommended in the book I've been good... For me, my disk was pushing back as I bent forward since I wasn't paying attention to the position of my lower back (the necessary arch).. I do occasional back arches. Basically a push up with my hips against the floor to keep the disk where it belongs. I do this on breaks while riding as well.

Best advice I heard so far is to consult a PT with a back specialty, then go from there.

Sound advice! Have a back specialist diagnose your particular problem and procure the services of a professional therapist that is skilled in treating your condition. Otherwise, you are p*****g in the wind.

I'm having back pain also,(one year old boy lots of picking up, parts delivery driver, drive all day and heavy lifting and riding a bike with no suspension at the mx track when I get time, and I have the worst posture) I know this may be a dumb question, will improving my posture help. Honestly I don't stand up straight cause I am trying not to flaunt anything, but when I do my back feels so much better.
