cam chain?

If you have the OEM unit, it is not adjustable, it is just spring pressure. Keep it wound all of the way in (clockwise) - you take out the center bolt and then wind it in with a small flat blade screw driver. With it wound all of the way in, install both of the mounting bolts for the tensioner. When the bolts are tightened up, you can release the tensioner (remove screwdriver) and then it will properly tension the cam chain...

If you have an aftermarket manual cam chain tensioner (MCCT), I have the thumpertalk one. They eliminate all possibility of the OEM one failing. To adjust them, rotate the motor, and turn in the tensioner until it gets tight (with your fingers), then back it off 1/4 turn.
