no more mirrors, wireless back-up camera

Recommended Posts

So I was looking at someones mirrors and a idea struck me. I hate mirrors. What if a wireless back-up camera was used in place of the mirrors. The monitor would have to be smaller in size than the stock mirror, with better wider vision, and night vision. The camera should be wireless to make everything easy to setup. The camera would have to be small, very small, and rugged. The monitor should be easy to mount anywhere. I was thinking right above the handlebar clamp, or right on the bars, actually does not matter where you put it. The camera does all the looking behind for you. So I did some looking and found this complete system.........Maybe, how about some ideas?

It would definetly have to be shock proof, water proof, and powered either by battery or 12V.

Most backup cameras are pretty rugged considering they are built to handle the elements. Making it shock proof wont be hard. Yea the one I posted was not a battery camera. No wires to the monitor. Just hook up the monitor and camera to any 12V system, easy.

I think there maybe be smaller and better ones out there. I will do some more searching.

I'll just stick with turning my head, thanks.

Haha, that's exactly what the semi-driver said right before he backed up over a car. J/K :)

I doubt that the screen will be viewable at all in bright daylight.

That's a good point.

There's also the helmet with integrated mirror:

I'm not sure if it adds bulk though (and what if I want to wear my MX-helmet?)

Or just make something like whats in the video and have it display in the visor somehow. I don't know. I was joining your search team chim and it's just info I'm throwing out there. I might make the little spy cam and use it with the ipod anyhow.

Ok, womans point of view here. Yes I know crap here it comes :D but you have to remember that all States have Mirror laws and this is a ticket waiting to happen. But good idea, still won't help me find the cops as thats what I need. Police warning is waht all of us need :) cause wheelie tickets are expensive:blush:

You are correct. In Cali. you are required to run at least one mirror, on the left side. I do have a small round mirror there but we all know they don't do much in the function dept. I don't like the look of large mirrors, but they work so well. I was just hoping somebody has done something different. I still want to keep my one bar mirror on for legal issues but also have a small rear view to get the real picture of what's flying up on me at a stoplight. I ride alot of city street. We all know about California drivers. They will look right at you, you make eye contact with them, then they proceed to pull out in front of you. Then to top it all off, they get mad at you for being in their way. :)

That second HUD is pretty cool. It's designed to work with the Vapor. Keeping your eyes where they need to be......on the road.
