Supercross de Reuver is talking....

Recommended Posts

Our colleague in Belgium Tom Jacobs did a recent interview with Marc de Reuver about his trip to the U.S. for next week’s Southwick National. “Calimero” is a great all-around rider, but he is particularly lethal in the sand, which makes Southwick the perfect place for him to dip his toe in the U.S. waters. He’s been there before, back in 2001, but that trip didn’t go so well and some of the lessons he learned—jet lag played a role in his sixteenth-place finish—he is trying to change up. In fact, he lands here tomorrow, he told Jacobs.

“I will be riding the CR-F450 of Ben Townley who is injured,” said DeReuver, who nearly won the overall at the deep-sand Lommel GP two weeks ago, only to crash towards the end of the second moto. “Hopefully I can make the podium in Southwick. Or is that aiming too high, I’m not really sure? At least I get the impression that apart from ‘Superman’ James Stewart I can beat any American in the sand. It’s going to be fun anyhow. I will be leaving already this Saturday (tomorrow), because I remember that I suffered jetlag in 2001 when I left very late.”

Just in case anyone missed that: “I can beat any American in the sand.”

Wonder if he's including RC, Alessi, RV, RD, or stroupe. Then again idk if the guy could beat Short or Ferry either.

i follow both series (nationals and european), and if he doesn't crash or anything he can be top 5, maybe on the box.

he said: "i got the impression", he's just basing on videos and things like that and made a assumption.

he also told on vitalmx, that he definitly didn't say it like that to the reporter like it was written on racerhead, he just hopes to do good and hopes to be on the podium.

also bear in mind that southwick sand isn't like the rough deep sand we got here in Belgium and Holland. just think back to last year what townley commented about the Wick.

I hope he can pull off a podium finish and mix it up!

one thing de Reuver brings is good racing!

Don't get your panties in a wad by quoting one small piece of his statement. What he said is

Hopefully I can make the podium in Southwick. Or is that aiming too high, I’m not really sure? At least I get the impression that apart from ‘Superman’ James Stewart I can beat any American in the sand. It’s going to be fun anyhow."

He did not just come out and say

"I can beat any American in the sand."

Quite a difference from my point of view. And whats wrong with him divulging his thoughts in an interview? They are only words so I'm not sure why people get worked up over stuff like this.

Not getting my pants bunched up just saying..........

He didn't say he could beat any American. He said he could beat any American besides Stewart. That is a pretty bold statement in itself. We'll see. It should be interesting and I will be there to see it go down. :)

Talk is cheap. Ask the French swim team :)

Honestly, I think RV and Dungey will have faster lap times than De Reuver.

thats a dumb ass thing to imply that de reuver is gonna get beat on a 450 by rv etc on 250f's. the des nations in the last couple of years has shown how 250f's are at no disadvantage in the same race as 450's. any one who has ridden and raced both classes will know how they are two very different bikes to ride. so its highly likely that rv will post times faster than most of the 450's.

good luck to dereuver. he's a funny light hearted guy it seems and he should add spice to the 450 class. it pisses me off your attitude to gp visiting riders. in europe we love to see us riders come over to gp's. just ask zac osbourne where the standard is, he's the latest us import to gp's

Theres no need to get your panties up in a bunch, none of us are underestimating the speed of other countires, and none of us have run down deruever, we just implied that it was not the smartest of things to be talking smack and motivating our guys even more, without even proving themselves beforehand. Look at reardon, He was supposed to be the next big thing.. now hes nothing but the next big lapper. 👍

I just watched a couple youtube videos on him, I think it's cool these guys are coming over here to mix it up alittle, but he looks like a turd, compared to the top ten here, lets hope he can prove me wrong.
