Is this carb part important?

Recommended Posts

I had a clogged pilot jet ('06 DRZ-S, stock Mikuni Carb), removed the carb to clean it. In the bowl there was a plastic part on the main jet, I don't know what it does. I set it aside, cleaned all the jets and reassembled the carb. Reinstalled the carb, bike is running great. Today, I found that plastic part on my workbench. Doh!

The exploded view in the shop manual I have doesn't picture this part, but it is in the microfiche and for sale for $5 at ronayers. It's described as "clip." Not a very functional description.

Reinstalling it isn't a big deal, but now I'm curious. What does this part do?

It is an 'anti-slosh' cup. It ensures the main jet is alwatys submerged in fuel. It is fairly important. You bike will run ok but on rough roads and such, the bike may "hiccup".

Thanks William, makes sense.

OGCMadMax: you are correct, it's part 56 in the exploded view.
