question on internals of yamaha forks

Recommended Posts

got a 01 yz426 that i know the front end has been lowered and im replacing the seals i figured i might as well take it back to stock as i could use the extra ground clearance since im really gettin tired of getting hung up on trees, i know the springs are shorter then stock for sure so those are getting replaced with a extra set of stock ones i had lying around, but i also pulled the damper rod assembly apart where just above the shim stack was the normal spring(bottoming spring or somethin i think its called) then i would say a 2" nylon orange spacer, im assuming this is to limit the free length of the fork correct? i will need to remove this to get my full travel again correct? i would post a pick but my cameras broke, and tried finding it on some parts schmatics but aparently were not suppose to go this deep into out front end?! thank in advance.

yessir, just remove those spacer(s), add the correct spring and you'll be fine.

You can check whether there has been some revalving done.

If the peening at the nut of the base/rebound valve is hurt, it has probabely been revalved.

Yep...toss the spacer...

What do you weigh? I have some softer fork springs (.43/.44/.45) if you need them...really cheap too...

How about the shock, did it get lowered too? If it did you might want to put it back too. There will be a spacer inside between the seal hd. and top out plate.
