New to forum....need some help with XT550

Recommended Posts

Hi

Great forum you have here!

I need some help with plumming the oil-lines of an xt550 motor.

I have a 350xt, and I got a hold of an xt550 engine to put in.

So, I need to add an oiltank, since the 550 is a dry sump engine.

I'm wondering how it is plummed.

There are offcourse the two main oil-lines.

I reckon the one going to the downtube on the frame is the intake side, and the other one the return. Does the return enter the tank above oil-level, so oil won't drain back that way, or doesn't it matter?

And there are two other hoses, one from the top of the crankcase and one from the top of the head. Where does these go? Just venilation or what?

I just got the motor, and never saw it installed, and I'm trying to figure it out.

I know the hose from the crankcase is a ventilation breather that goes up to the airbox. Not too sure about the one on the head. I'll have a look at mine when I get to our farm again and let you know. If you think it's worth putting a 38hp motor in a frame made for a 28-odd HP engine, go for it! The XT550 rear shock is really bad, as it's a strange design, not a monocross, but some weird contorted excuse for one. Check out my garage and you'll see what I mean. I hope this helps. Good luck:ride:

And welcome to the TT family!
