Knock when cold

Recommended Posts

2004 DRZ400s. Valve adjust and cam chain are good. When it's cold, there's a slight tap or knock that goes away fairly quickly as the engine warms. The engine runs strong. It sounds like it's near the head, but may be a connecting rod. Has anyone had this type of noise (present when cold, then goes away when warm) What did it turn out to be? Thanks in advance.

the piston is forged this means it has a low silacon content in the alumin so it swells or gets bigger with heat

to compansate for this the cold clairances are "sloppy" for lack of a better turm

this is why it is hard on the mtoor to start and only drive a block or 2
