DR650 motord wheels question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, i am getting a set of motoard wheels made up for my DR650 (Excel rims/RAD hubs), and want to know about the tyre sizing.

The rear rim is 4.25 and most people put on 150 size tyres. I have struck up an awsome price for a pair of Maxxis Presa tyres (M6118/M6119) but the rear is only available in 160.

will this be a problem?

also, do i need to get the builder to build the wheels with an offset?

i was told an offset of about 10mm or s to the right is enough to fit a bigger tyre on the bike without it rubbing on the chain. is this true? will this work for a DR650?

so for the questions, just want to do it right the first time.

If you are determined to run the 160 tire you may need to have the rim offset adjusted with the wheel and tire mounted on the bike. That way the tire can be centered between the chain on the right and the inside of the swing arm on the left. It can be done but there will be very little clearance on each side. In addition, a tire wider than a 150 will probably make it a chore getting the wheel in and out of the swingarm.
