Need Quick, Easy Help...Oil Check

Recommended Posts

Left side is engine

Right side is tranny.

Each side has a dipstick.

Warm the motor up for 5 minutes (including riding it).

Wait 3 minutes.

With bike on level ground, check dipstick(s).

High mark is good. Low mark is very bad.

** if the engine oil is low, it is probably time to change it**

** you should change it every 5-15 hours, depending on dust/conditions**

** check the oil every ride, and top off: the engine holds a very small amount of

oil, and if you don't check it and change it often, you will be unhappy**

** Always use a full quart in the tranny**

** Use Motorcylce oils only in the motor and transmission (no auto oil)

** Clean the air filter each time you change the oil, or sooner.

** Be careful removing the filter; dont drop crap into the boot

** Be careful removing the filter: it will tear if you force it; fine the 'combination' to removing it by rotating the filter about 90 degrees, tilt, and pull out.

????????????????????

My 05 only has dipstick for the engine side. Tranny side has a 10 mm/phillips check bolt at about 4 o'clock from the clutch

Did they change this on other years?

Ooops, no dipstick on the tranny side, I forgot. It's a black cap that looks like the dipstick cap though....

I personally don't trust check bolts, as the oil has too many places to hide to be accurate.
