07 250 XCFW Oil Problems

I have a 2007 ktm 250 xcfw with about 50 hrs and 1100 miles. Lately its been blowing smoke out of the crankcase and burning a quart every 30 or 40 miles of trail. After this happened i re routed the breather hose into the airbox but it just filled that up with oil also. im wondering if this is a common problem and if i need more serious work than new rings and gaskets

You might have a broken or stuck ring. That's alot of oil to blow out for just worn rings.

Pull the head and cylinder and have a look inside.

Sounds like it's time for a top rebuild (new rings and a piston).

Save money and Just get rings those forged pistons in the KTM's last a long time.

+ 1, time to get in there:prof:

Two options:

Unless its overfilled with oil (bike set level overnight oil level must not be above the middle of the site glass)

Then it is a ring problem, buying a piston is likly a waste of money but the ring does not last long on a tiny engine that has to rev to make power

Time for rebuild ? What oil and what change intervals ?
