1996 XR 600 carb problems?

Recommended Posts

I just pulled out my 96 xr 600 after a few years in storage. I cleaned the carb out and got the bike running, but their was lot of gas coming out of the overflow tubes when gas is on. Then after I took it apart again and re-cleaned it the bike wont idle unless its on the choke and when choke is off it backfires and pops like crazy. Also the pipe got so hot by the cylinder that it turned bright red. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

sounds like ur VERY lean...

open the carb back up and find the problem before u damage something...

disassemble the carb and blast every passage with carb cleaner

check ur float & float level...

remove the jets and inspect for blockages...sounds like ether the pilot jet or float level problems

👍

Check the tank too. You might be cleaning the carb just to have it get clogged with crud from the tank. Get a small filter if the tank is the problem.

It is definitely carb jet and or passegeways that are clogged. Take everything apart and clean everything again. Spray cleaner through each and every passageway. Be sure that you see carb cleaner go through every hole.
