which direction to install wheel bearings?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be installing an Allballs kit on my xr400 rear wheel tomorrow, and noticed that the new bearings don't really seem to have any marks differentiating inside from outside.

I also seem to remember reading that it is important to install bearings in the proper direction.

Is there any way to tell which side of the bearing should be facing the inside of the wheel? Or does it not matter at all?

thanks!

If the bearing is sealed on one side and open on the other, place the open end towards the center of the hub. If it's sealed on both sides (probably the case) or open on both, it doesn't matter which side goes in first.
