Xt 200 problems with carb or timing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just rebuilt my old 1983 Xt 200. I can get it to fire up if i dump a little gas in the cylinder and it will run at about half throttle or more but it wants to puke out when i let off. I have read that these bikes are kind of finniky with their carbs but i think my timing might be a little off. Can anyone give me some tips on how to be sure that i did the timing right? Or maybe some tips about the carb as well?

Get a bucket of chemical dip carb cleaner stuff and take the carb apart as much as possible then clean all metal parts like recommended on the bucket. You have to dip them and leave them in there for a while then rinse with water, let dry and put the carb back together. These carbs are very touchy. That should get you going though. I cleaned it more times than I'd like to admit and it didn't run right until I dipped it.
