quick question?

Recommended Posts

I'm redoing the valve cover gasket and was thinking on adjusting the valves while in there. My question is i watched the vavles and both sides closed, now doesnt it matter where the piton is exactly? i turned it over with the kick starter and found notch on the flywheel/rotor through the little cap that i removed. near the top it kinda goes up and wont really stay there, the piston i mean. Also there looks to be alot of play between the rockers, more than the .003

is there something im doing wrong? or go ahead and adjust them? thanks

Nick

I suppose you could do the intakes while the exhaust valves are fully open, and you could do the exhausts when the intakes are fully open. There's some overlap at the top of the exhaust-to-intake cycle transition, so you want to be careful that the valves are fully on their seats when you check. The surest way is to put the piston at TDC on the compression cycle.

BTW, the piston will stay at TDC a lot better if you've removed a spark plug.
