compression PSI on XR600R anyone?

Recommended Posts

I read a thread somewhere that it should be 6.5kg/cc (about 92 PSI).

- can anyone verify this?

Mine is wimpy when I kick it then all of a sudden goes harder - like a valve sticks then goes good....decomp level is not depressed during this.

Cheers

Dave

What year 600? Does it have the auto decomp on the cam? Any mods done? More info, please.

Its a '94 with no engine mods I'm aware of.

It does have a decomp lever that I checked is not snagged or jamming.

Cheers

1991-2000 XR600R Compression

Decompressor engaged 400-600 kPa (58-87 psi)

Decompressor disengaged 1300-1500 kPa (188-217 psi)

...it's normal for the bike to kick over much easier until u reach Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke when both intake & exhaust valve are both closed...then as u say it "goes harder"...

👍

P.S. ...if ur trying to start the bike by kicking it over on anything but the compression stroke, it's waisted motion...it's nothing like a two stroke.
