I had an 08 250SX before getting my 08 250XC and was surprised in the difference in stock settings. I have tried quite a few different settings on the 250XC and like the following for Ohio riding in 65~85F temps:

42 pilot

158 main

N3EW needle in the 3rd (N3EJ also works well)

1.5 air screw

I also like the red powervalve spring...really wakes up the motor yet it is still easy to ride. Fun bike!?

Yeah and the 42 is pretty rich. I guess if it works...

I think the 250s are way easier to jet than the 300s. Seems like there's a lot of jetting specs that work.

depends on the needle and location being used.

Well so far I'm at 42P, 168 main, Blue #4 & she pulls very hard!? Should get in some single track this weekend to tweak it some more, may try 40P 172 M red #4.

This is at sea level in moist sand, 190 lb rider BTW.
