Mikuni and throttle cable fitting (with pics)

Hello chaps,

Got a Mikuni through the post today and the install looks pretty straightforward.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the throttle cable connections on the carb. There are four places where I could connect - obviously two for the pull and two for the push.

Which one's did you use? Hopefully it will save me from fitting them and having to change it.

Many thanks,

Use the ones closest to that V notch in the throttle cam. The other 2 would be a stretch for the cables.

Thanks, much appreciated.

TR42 am I going crazy but isn’t there an XRs Only aluminum adapter on both sides of the carb :D

Joe I would give XRs a call :worthy:

Good catch Triple B. If his carb didn't come from XRs Only, it most likely doesn't have the proper sized bell housings adapted to the carb. I see one on the rear but it looks too short and the one from XRs Only is too short already but will fit.

The front of his looks stock, no adapter.

Like was said Joe, you may need to call XRs Only and see if you can get just the adapters or have something fashioned yourself locally.

Hi chaps,

Cheers for the concern but I have both aluminium adaptors on mine. I was at work so just hunted for a random picture of a Mikuni carb.

Thanks.

Two last questions (I promise) - On the carb are the lower two holes are where the throttle pull cable attaches to? On the bars at the throttle, which of the two cables is the pull cable, the one nearest the rider on the bar or the one furthest away?

Thanks again.

The one nearest to the rider is the pull on the handlebar

Come on now, you can figure that out. Work the throttle cam on the carb by hand and see which would have to be the pull cable.

Same with the throttle tube on the handlebars. You twist your wrist back for more throttle, right? So which hole would have to have the pull cable in it?

I've started putting the carb in but had to quit for the night because of fading light. Got back from today's ride a little later than planned.

Cheers for the pics sbsurfer.

Is it me or does the Mikuni have a lot less throttle travel than the stock carb? Kind of like a quick action throttle.

Hmmm...... I haven't noticed it. But then I installed mine 3 years ago. If I did find it different from the stock carb at the time, it must not have made enough of an impression for me to remember it.
