What have you done to reduce the weight of your L

Recommended Posts

So weight being one of the issues of the L I wanted to see what all has been done to drop weight.......

What have you done?

Replaced the big floppy fender with a smaller lighter Acerbis motard fender, disposed of the "heat shrouds" and snorkel, replaced the huge signal lights with mini lights, removed the passenger pegs and thereby any passengers.

I gotta admit none of the above was done to reduce weight but I guess it was a good side effect.

To shed some more pounds I think I'll replace that big ugly smoke can next. :D

I get off mine!!!!:D:worthy::ride:

Seriously though, I haven't done anything to take off weight. I've read the most common things to do is ditch the stock tank for a plastic one, which doesn't usually make much sense to me seeing how the plastic ones carry more fuel and negate the weight loss issue, but at least you get more miles out of that weight.

Second is the rear sub frame removal

Third is replacing the Computer monitor of a tail light with a smaller and more low profile one.

Fourth is removing the passenger pegs

Fifth is replace that 50 gallon drum of a muffler with a lesser weight aluminum or titanium can.

Other items can include removal of the horn, headlight and blinkers.

Have I left anything out?????

plastic gas tank

protaper bars

rear sub frame removed

remove 6 lb stock tail light replace with a smaller unit (miaer).

passenger pegs removed

replace exaust can w/aftermarket (WB E2)

I would only recomend removing the sub frame if you are not going to load the bike down with gear. Mine has been off for years with no problem:ride:

u guys must be talk'n about the fender frame/support since the L does not have a removable subframe like the R...at least mine dosen't :worthy: but mine has been fine without it...of coarse the brakelight has been changed out.

the turnsignal and rear turnsignal brackets weigh quite a bit too...

i just replaced the stock headpipe with a header i got off Ebay and i wus suprised at the weight difference also...FMF for $160 :D

as i reported in another thread after removing a ton of stuff and adding a few things mine weighs ~330lbs with ~4 gallons of fuel...so 300-305lbs w/o fuel.

might be time to sell off the 35lbs of chit i removed :ride:

:ride:

P.S. oh yeah...now that i have a header i'll shave off a little weight with the hotcam install...no auto-decomp :ride:

Ditto here except turn signals also, any idea what the weight might be now? I weighed mine on a truck scale, 320 lbs. with a full 4 gallons of gas, but the scale only reads in 20 lb. increments:banghead:

For the people that replace the old tail light section, what do you do about blinkers?

I kept the stock blinkers in place, just a slight relocation.
