08 CRF450X what do i need 4 motard conversion??? Please help

Recommended Posts

Hi new to this site and i need help as i am wanting to convert my 08 CRF450X to motard for road usage and i have had trouble finding information on what is required for the conversion as every bike shop i have approached has told me something different and made me confused. some have told me i need a cush drive then others have said not to worry about this. I also want to know about speedo recalibration as the 08 model speedo reads off the rear wheel. i want to set my bike up to give my mates on there road bikes a hard time up the mountains but i want to make sure i set the bike up right as i do not want to damage the motor/gearbox. I live in Brisbane, Australia and would like to know who to approach about the conversion and how much as the quotes i have been given are all over the place price wise. ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

Cheers

Andrew

Sounds like a good idea for a nice bike. Road use, but does it have to be legalized and inspected?

I don't see it being a big issue if the speedo is off a tad, unless it worries you. I'd concentrate on wheels tires and gearing and then deal with the small issues.

Gearing? You might just go up 1 tooth on the front sprocket and see how it feels.

Where exactly does the speedo drive from? Is it cable or electric?

I purchased rim/spoke kits for mine which allowed the use of the stock hubs. I found a place that sells tires really reasonably, so I got a set of Conti radials.

I get my rims here (send a message to Jeff). He offers brake kits, sprockets, lights, etc...:

and I get my tires here:

Good luck.

Send me a PM if I can do anythig to help,

Gene.

As far as what kit you buy . It depends on what your going to do with the bike street or race . most race setups run a 16.5 front tire . where a street setup runs a 17. You definately have to get a better brake . at least a big rotor kit . just remember the more you pay the better the the parts are . expect to pay like 2500 til all said and done for a good setup
