Ride ideas for around Leadville

What are there for intermediate rides around Leadville? We might be there next July/August and will have dual sport bikes (DRZs). I am leaning towards Silverton and Ouray area but like the central location and the campground at Leadville. Also want to do Mosquito Pass as I have tried it twice and got turned back by snow both times. Any ride loops or info would be appreciated. Thanks

There are some nice jeep trails around camp hale. North of Leadville. My son and I stopped there last august and found some nice loop trails. Pretty easy riding in most cases.

One word,

One word,

One word.... HUH? What is Taylor?

He's referring to Taylor Park, CO. (Central CO stuff). It's a couple of hours from Leadville if you go up over Cottonwood Pass from the town of Buena Vista.

from leadville you can get to four mile by buena vista in about an hour. That's a nice place for a ds bike. The guys are advrider.com do a big ride up there just about every year.

One word.... HUH? What is Taylor?

It is the place that was described to you in your post from 3 days earlier about almost the exact same topic.

I welcome anyone who wants to have a fun week/weekend of riding to join me in Leadville/Lake County (or anywhere in Colorado) for 2010. Heres some random pics of the area.

(What I look like...if anyone really wants to know ::thumbsup:)

I plan on doing Mosquito a couple of times this summer. I have a cabin at the base of Breakneck Pass (just north of Weston Pass -- which is about 5 miles south of Mosquito).

At the end of June, will be riding over Weston...down into Leadville for Mexican food and up and out over Mosquito -- dropping back into Fairplay and then south a few miles back to my cabin.

I've not done Mosquito before, but weather permiting, it sounds like it is perfectly doable on a well-equipped dual sport.

Any input on Mosquito?

Has anybody done the Holy Cross Trail on a dirtbike?  This is just outside of Minturn, north of Leadville and south of Vail.  I've run this several times in my Jeep (probably my favorite trail) all the way past Holy Cross City to Cleveland Rock, but wondering how it would be on a bike.  I'm guessing it would be easier.
I'll likely plan to find out this summer, but would appreciate any input.

Three of us decided to get the heck out of the Midwest weather as we are suffering a bad case of the wife is driving us crazy right along with the cabin fever.  A couple of us have been to MOAB once before but we're only three and we like a bit larger group when the riders are fairly well matched.  However, and this may show what I DON'Y know about MOAB, the one day of riding I was able to do out there last year before having to head home for a family burial, it seems to me that the skill level required for most of MOAB is fairly dialed down compared to Taylor Park so matching up skill level as a group seems less an issue.  Now don't skin me alive if I am wrong, I already said I don't really know the area yet.  So anyway, if anyone is interested in joining us on the trail, we'd like to know about it!

Weather should be awesome, thinking of taking the day off to go ride rampart or something else close Friday. I'm not one to go riding by myself so if anyone is thinking about it let me know! My usual riding buddy has plans.

Spring is almost here and I was wondering if anyone has been by pipestone... How is the snow looking?? MTDOT pass web cam is down so I could not get a visual on the snowpack. is the lower area still a bit wet or is it starting to dry up a bit. Looks like we have some really good weather this week. I think I am going to head there this saturday to check it out but if anyone has any updates post them here.
Also, last year was my first year there and we only hit it in the late fall. We really liked the area and were able to go 4 or 5 times. If you are a regular shout out and lets go riding.... I plan on spending a lot of time there this year.
