Recommended Posts

Looking to get a larger bike for my son 13 years old 5'9" 180# has out grown

His DRZ 125. The klx is a low hour 2002 for $1400 is this a good choice?

Also looking at a 2002 TTR 225 clean and asking $1300

Klx is a much better bike than the ttr225. But ttr is e start.

if you don't mind kicking, do the star gear fix and ride the piss outta the klx.

Check out PlanetKLX.org under hopups for a description of the shifter mod.

Never ridden a KDX but I can't imagine the 300 is faster than a 200 or 220 pinger. Maybe a little better down low but don't the KDX's also have good low end?

I don't think the KLX is faster than the KDX say corner to corner because the two smoke is just faster off the line and has more power per CC too. However, the KLX is the tractor between the two of them. Anyway, the star gear thingy is here http://planetklx.org/techtips/shift-fix.html

I think the klx300 might be a little big and heavy for a 13 year old. I have one as an extra bike, it is a great bike but i would go a little smaller for him till he gets a little older.

The kid's 5' 9" and 180! I think he can handle it. Might even be on the small side in a few months.

i'm sorry, but the TTR is an ugly motorcycle.

13 year old needs to be cool for his friends imho, so he needs a cool looking bike, which the klx is. performance wise, you can open up that KLX for not much $ invested down the road. and it isn't heavy if you ask me, feels just as light as my KX 250 and I feel its more 'rideable' than it as well.

if your son is drag racing two smokers, then he'll lose. if he is riding thru the woods, chances are he isn't going to wrap himself around a tree, the klx has great handling and is balanced well.

We ride a mix of trails open and a little woods he was having trouble in sand

On the little DRZ because on the small wheel diameter and being so cramped

On such a small bike. I do not want to rush in to somthing too big but he is

growing fast.

How does he like your 2000 KDX200?? I think they're both nearly the same size?? That should tell you right quick if he's ready for a KLX300 size wise.:p

He will not have any trouble handling the KLX. It will last him a long time if he takes care of it. At some point he will choose his favorite type of riding in which the KLX may or my not be his ride. Until then "Happy Trails"

I'm 2" taller than your son, but he out weighs me by 30 lbs. I think the klx would be a great bike for him. That's a great price to.
