07 - the top hole where the 8mm screw fits no longer holds tight and I lost the screw - How do I fix this? Do i need a new gas tank or should i try a 10mm screw?

this is the 1st kawi I've had and the 07 kx250f has been quite an experience:

1. locked up hot start at the carb - had to replace the entire carb - luckily this happened under 30 days and cost me 0

2. broken front break levers - stock ones broke a lot - now use asv

3. oil drain plug became stripped out - had it retooled

4. the timing bolts blew out during a race

5. lost 2 spokes on the front wheel

6. jetting

7. lost screws and bolts here and there

now the tank issue

Not to be an a**hole, but all those things you mentioned are due to poor maintenance. In my opinion.

1. all stuff needs to be lubed.

2. Is it Kawi´s fault that you crash?

3. Get a torquewrench.

4. Check your bolts more often.

5. Check your spokes more often.

6. Jetting changes with weather. Kawi don´t know where you ride.

7. Check your bolts more often.

About the tank bolt, did you try to tap it to clear the threads and use a longer screw?

LOL

95% of the issues I mentioned were after a two week period of riding the bike. No, it's not Kawi's fault that I crashed and broke the front brake. Local shop should have "prepped" the bike. Just venting and my biggest concern with the kawi is craftsmanship; the bike it very HM.

I'll probably tap it as a longer screw would dig into the tank and gas would leak out, right?

What screw are we talking about exactly? I thought you meant the one in front, holding the tank to the frame?

Btw, all screws in the tank and shrouds are 6mm. They have 8 mm hex heads.
