cheap buddy bike

hey i recently purchased a 00 yz125 after not having a bike for a couple years. now my problem is none of my friends have bikes. i am looking to buy a cheap reliable bike so i dont have to ride alone. any one have any suggestions as to what to buy for a beater/backup bike for my friends to ride.

there is no such thing as a cheap bike! haha

I second that!

a bike might be cheap when you buy it but it will have the low price tag for a reason :busted:

on a side note, ive been seeing 06 yz125's in my area (San Diego) for only $2500 and the price falls exponentially for older models.

if u want a cheap bike ull probably end up buying a smaller cc than what fits ur friends but hey its all fun right!

yeah im not picky on the cc's of the bike. i was just thinking somethin older and fairly reliable in the 500 dollar range.

In that case i would go for an 80/85, they are cheap, really reliable, and A LOT of fun. :busted:

TTR 125 if you want to stay with Yamaha

Other wise Honda XR 100 are near bullet proof and less than a grand.

maybe i should just find some riding buddys from the philly area on here and save some money lol.

$500? And reliable? Not going to happen. It seems to me any decent bike is $1K or more.

You can find deals for $500, or $800, but usually those have a list of small problems that add up to a decent outlay of cash. Tires, sprockets, clutch plates, top end, bearings, etc. All a sudden that $500 deal just cost $1400 total.

Hey guys, I just picked up a running 03 yz125 a few weeks ago and upon tearing down the top end, I noticed the cylinder head looks a little beat up. Is it possible to just clean it up or am I better off just buying a new one? Thanks guys.

Hey guys I just bought a bike last night. So the seller said the bike will turn on but then die. We didn't try it because it was really late at night and it was raining (seat was wet). But he said if you bump start it, it will turn on and ride. So what do you think the problem is? I just want to make sure it runs... I probably won't be able to bump start it till Saturday (rain)... It's a four stroke, and I know absolutely nothing about them. Thanks.

      Hey guys,
I've used this forum as a "guest" for awhile now and I thought I'd share my build now that it's all coming together.  The primary purpose of this project is to help me train for roadracing my 2009 R1 at lower speeds as well as giving me a cheap alternative to racing the big bike.
Here's what she looked like when I picked it up from a local shop.  Paid $800 cash for the bike as you see it with 17' rims, FMF pipe, EBC 250mm front rotor and clip on handle bars.

      Fits PERFECT!
